Both Jurgen Klinsmann’s U.S. national team and Caleb Porter’s U.S. U-23 side are in training camps right now, and this past Friday they squared off for a scrimmage at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
The senior team won 4-0, but it was an unusual game on at least two counts: first, despite the lopsided scoreline, the U-23s controlled much of the play. Second, most of the senior team’s offense was provided by guys who are age-eligible for the U23s: FC Dallas winger Brek Shea, 21, assisted on the first and fourth goals; New York striker Juan Agudelo, 19, set up the second; and Sporting Kansas City striker Teal Bunbury, 21, scored the third.
Highlights:
Shea, Bunbury, and Agudelo will be with the U23s as they point toward the London Summer Games, beginning with CONCACAF qualifying in March.
