The Kansas City Wizards acquired U.S. U-17 star Luis Gil via weighted lottery on Monday, but were well aware of the players’ desire to play for either RSL or Seattle. Yesterday, Kansas City accommodated those wishes, shipping Gil to Real Salt Lake in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2011, an international roster spot, and 25% of any transfer fee paid to RSL should Gil be sold to a foreign club in the future.
The 16-year-old midfielder had drawn interest from Arsenal and Real Madrid before signing with MLS.
In other Kansas City news, the Wizards failed to come to terms on a new contract for 35-year-old Argentine attacker Claudio Lopez, who had been the team’s Designated Player. Lopez notched 13 goals and 15 assists in two seasons with Kansas City
