The Great D.P. Roundup of 2010

The ranks of designated players in Major League Soccer have swelled to 12, with possibly more to follow before the transfer window closes in the middle of the month.

Seven of the 12 have been added in the past six weeks, joining Juan Pablo Angel, Landon Donovan, David Beckham, Julian de Guzman, and Freddie Ljunberg, as MLS D.P.s.

Here are the new designated players, in order of their signing date, with nationalities in parentheses:

Blaise Nkufo (Switzerland), Seattle

Branko Boskovic (Montenegro), D.C. United

Mista (Spain), Toronto

Thierry Henry (France), New York

Nery Castillo (Mexico), Chicago

Alvaro Fernandez (Uruguay), Seattle

Rafael Marquez (Mexico), New York

Which player do you think will have the biggest impact? See any potential busts in the group? Think any more MLS teams will dip into the D.P. pool?

Let us know in the comments.

Alvaro Fernandez will be a big success. I thought he was one of Uruguay’s best players in the WC. Henry will be a bust by next July.
