MLS Goes Three-for-Three in CONCACAF Champions League Group Play

The Columbus Crew and Real Salt Lake eked out one-goal home victories in their opening-leg games last night to give MLS a perfect 3-0 record in CCL group play, following Toronto FC’s 2-1 win over Cruz Azul on Tuesday.

Columbus got a gorgeous goal in the 14th minute from Nigerian midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo, and made it stand up for a 1-0 win over Municipal of Guatemala. Check out Ekpo’s golazo here:

Real Salt Lake fell behind early to Arabe Unido of Panama, but battled back with two goals from Costa Rican striker Alvaro Saborio—the second on a stoppage-time penalty kick—to snatch a 2-1 win.

Here are the highlights (great ball from Chris Wingert on Saborio’s first goal):

Major League Soccer’s fourth CCL entrant, Seattle Sounders FC, plays Marathon of Honduras in San Pedro Sula tonight.
