Aaannnd down the stretch they come!
Here’s BPFL co-commissioner MGlo with your Week 27 wrap, including a hiccup from the league leaders, some shockers in the League Cup, and the surging Disgruntled Numpties:
Apparently, the coloradokeeper picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.
Along with being knocked out of the Backpost League Cup, the regular-season leader suffered his second loss, a 42-26 drubbing by seventh-place Afrikan Letsatsi that ended his six-game unbeaten run.
Still, the keeper maintained his eight-point lead atop the table because Dynasty of FC Hammer, conquerors of the keeper in the Cup, suffered a third straight loss. Third-place Herk City pulled within a game of the Dynasty as they ended their two-game losing streak. Pushing to finish in the Top 3 are fourth-place DisgruntledNumpties, who have won five straight and are unbeaten in their last 9 (8-0-1). The Numpties are a point ahead of the fifth- and sixth-place clubs, Ahmad Haziq Hashim and El nino, respectively. The former have won two straight and four of their last five, while the latter have won two of their last three.
Six consecutive victories have moved Letsatsi into seventh place, replacing The Xerex’s Team, who saw their four-game win streak come to an end, and dropped to eighth place. Also moving down the ladder to ninth were Giorgio Chinaglia, who have now lost four in a row. Sunshine FC remain in the 10th spot as they finally won after four straight defeats.
In the League Cup, we saw some giant killings, most notably by 40th-place YourAdHere, who knocked off fourth-place DisgruntledNumpties, 41-39.
In addition to that shocker, 30th-place tango eliminated eighth-place The Xerex’s Team 30-11, with the latter’s 11 points raising eyebrows, considering teams have 15 players available and each gets 1 point if they step on the field!

Performance of the Week: When you pick the right player to be your captain there is no better feeling, as mudheads will attest after naming Clint Dempsey to lead his squad. The Fulham midfielder earned 30 of mudheads’ 71 points, with two goals, a clean sheet and 2 Bonus Points all doubled to go along with Robin van Persie’s two goals and 3 Bonus Points and Bobby Zamora’s one goal and 3 Bonus points. It was a runaway victory (71-32 over Serbian zbornaja).
Unlucky Loser: socr_maniac was the unfortunate honoree this week as his 56 points were good enough to take down 36 teams—but not Team Fortress 4, which racked up 60 points for a narrow victory.
Thanks MGlo. Don’t forget to set your lineups before Saturday morning—and watch this space for our upcoming MLS Fantasy League.
The new domestic season—the 17th for MLS, which now has 19 teams, and Robbie Keane, David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Landon Donovan, and C.J. Sapong (remember that name)—starts this weekend.
